DOLE-X celebrates Independence Day thru 2019 Kalayaan Job Fair


Cagayan de Oro City --- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) celebrated the 121st commemoration of the nation’s Independence Day on 12 June 2019, here. DOLE-X Regional Director lawyer Joffrey M. Suyao spearheaded the attendance to the flag raising at the Kiosko sa Kagawasan, Divisoria. The DOLE-X team then proceeded to the Atrium, Limketkai Center to assist the Kalayaan Job Fair

in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) – Cagayan de Oro (CDO) Jobs Placement Bureau for the local and overseas job vacancies and the ABS-CBN as the media partner to this undertaking for its nationwide campaign on “Trabaho Patrol.”


The opening program, hosted by ABS-CBN highlighted the involvement and commitment of social partners. The Regional Tripartite and Industrial Peace Council-X (RTIPC-X) Vice-Chairpersons for management and workers’ sectors declared their support and continuing partnership with the DOLE-X. The Vice-Chair for Labor Sector Nicandro Borja of ALU-TUCP, represented by ALU National Board of Director Teodoro Suarez and Vice-Chair for Management Sector Vivien Lawansa of A. Brown Company declared their continuing cooperation through the signing of the pledge of support in tandem with the government through Director Suyao and Mayor Oscar S. Moreno and ABS-CBN Station Manager Ma. May Lynn Cainhog. These expressions of support keep everyone moving towards inclusive growth as envisioned by the present administration.


Mayor Moreno said independence has to be earned with a continuing desire for independence of the self can be conveyed through work and to stand in one’s own volition without being dependent on others yet collaborative.  He also wished the applicants well for them to succeed in their career endeavors and congratulated all the employers for supporting the government in terms of employment facilitation.

Relaying the Independence Day message of Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, Director Suyao said the Department joins the Filipino workingmen in giving honor to the bravery and patriotism of our people who fought for independence. These patriotic beginnings continue to guide us in pushing for genuine change and meaningful reforms to better the lives of future generations.


Moreover, Suyao earlier said 18,924 job vacancies were posted from 88 companies. Of these, 2,139 qualified and were duly interviewed. Reported also were 13 Hired-On-The-Spot.


Mark Christian Superales of Acabar Marketing joined the Job Fair for the first time when he heard the information from ABS-CBN TV program. As a 25-year old and a three-year work experience as a local factory worker, Mark applied various job postings and awaiting for further interview as a factory worker abroad. He plans to save for his future and share in the family expenses being the eldest of three younger brothers. “Gusto ko mu-abroad aron maka-tabang sa pagpa-eskwela sa akong mga manghud ug uban pang gasto sa panimalay,” he said. Mark said his salary from overseas work/adequately defray family expenses which is a big help to his father who works as a Security Guard and sole breadwinner of the family.


Likewise, Enily Ebarat of Barra, Opol, Misamis Oriental is also awaiting the call as female cleaner bound for Saudia Arabia. Working previously as a Household/Domestic worker for five years in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Enily pursued again to apply abroad but this time as a cleaner. She was advised by EGMP International Corporation that she will be assigned in residences, hotels and schools, which Enily made interest to shift as a cleaner due to its reasonable working time arrangements. As a single mother of a 15-year old, she braved to leave her family to financially support also her siblings since both of her parents already died.   


The One Stop Shop of government services and DOLE Clinic involved the PNP, Phil. Postal Corp., NBI, PSA, SSS, Department of Trade and Industry, Technical Education Skills Administration, and attached agencies of the Department provided their respective services, as well as the pre-employment requirements of the applicants.


Director Suyao is grateful for the all-out support from the Local Government Unit of Cagayan de Oro City headed by Mayor Moreno through the Public Employment Service Office/Job Placement Bureau together with other social partners and stakeholders such as: ABS-CBN and Lim Ket Kai Center.
