DOLE-X distributes P250k DILEEP catering utensils to Plaridel beneficiaries

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, June 13, 2019 --- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE- X) - Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ.) led the release of PhP 250,000.00 worth of catering utensils to Paglaum Livelihood Association (PLA) under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP)  on the 20th of May 2019 at Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) Hall, Plaridel, Mis. Occ.

Thirty identified beneficiaries who are from the informal sector of the society consist mainly of housewives and hoped for their family’s well-being. Some of them were already trained in handling catering services logistics and food preparations, hoping a sustainable catering service enterprise with excellent service quality, meeting clients/customers satisfaction and establishing a fine cuisine/restaurant.

The association took the opportunity to establish a catering business to address the catering needs of Paglaum MPC functions like meetings, trainings and other activities. As per approved proposal, the financial assistance was used to purchase stainless steel tables, round 10-seater folder tables, chopping dish with side lamp, pressure cooker, water dispenser and food trolley for catering purposes.

Association President Betty C. Adorable gratefully said, “As a first time recipient to the government’s livelihood project, I can hardly believe that we have received such help from DOLE-X. I am happy that aside from doing my passion to cook, I can now assist my husband in the expenses at home. With our perseverance and hard work, I am sure this business will enable us to be at par or more with the salaries of the minimum wage earners.”

Another member-beneficiary, Merlyn Aranas, 60 years old, explained how she basked the heat every afternoon to sell “puto” and “bibingka” to sustain her three grandchildren. With DOLE’s livelihood assistance, she is now very delighted, “I can finally take a rest from selling “kakanin” around the city since it is already strenuous for my age. We will rather make sure this catering business will prosper as our sole and reliable source of income. My share from the 80% profit will be used for payment of our electricity, water bill and school allowance of my grandchildren.”

As to the availment of DOLE programs, Aranas added that she will definitely spread the good news to her neighboring community so they will also benefit from the livelihood assistance of the government.

To ensure the implementation of the livelihood project, Paglaum Community Development Foundation Inc. as the accredited co-partner (ACP) will monitor the operation of the project particularly in the procurement of raw materials, equipment, and tools and to make available all the project records and facilities during audits by DOLE and/or Commission On Audit authorized representatives.

DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Senior staff Jose G. Robles urged the beneficiaries to take an active part in nurturing the assistance they received from the department, saying that sustaining their projects and doing their best to make them lasting would be a good counterpart.
