Mahinog LGU accepts DOLE NSRS program; curbs jobs-skills mismatch

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, 13 August --- Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) Regional Director lawyer Joffrey M. Suyao headed the ceremonial turnover and signing of the Deed of Donation and Acceptance of the one unit desktop computer in favor of the Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for use of the National Skills Registry System (NSRS) in curbing jobs-skills mismatch in Mahinog Camiguin Province Municipal Mayor Rogelio C. Acle gleefully received the computer hardware on 5 August 2019 in Queobe Eco-park, San Miguel, Mahinog, this province.

The NSRS is an information technology database of the government that captures the pool of skills, education and work experience of the constituents of a community which will efficiently and readily be accessible to prospect employers. At the same time, the system provides accurate matching of these skills with that of the qualification needs of the job, thereby addresses the country’s problem on jobs-skills mismatch. The program is also economical to both the worker and employer, when an investor of the municipality will be establishing a hotel perhaps, workers/constituents who are hotel and restaurant graduates or with experience will be automatically displayed in the system.

Jobs-skills mismatch occurs when the level of skills of an individual does not match the level of skills required in the job. Either, this happens when the level of skills or education is more or less than the level of skills or education required to perform a job. It could also transpire when the type of education or skills is not appropriate for the current job. (source: EU commission (Skills panorama) 2015, Europe)

He expressed increased enthusiasm and support in the employment facilitation programs to beef up employment of the skilled, unskilled, youth and other marginalized sectors.
