350 Oro displaced workers hired under DOLE-TUPAD

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A total of 350 displaced or underemployed workers were hired under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced (TUPAD) workers program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) thru its Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO). Barangay Nazareth Chairman Max “Jon-Jon” Rodriguez hosted the orientation prior to start of work for District 2 of the city on 22 August 2019 at the Barangay Nazareth Covered Court, here.

DOLE-X CDO FO Chief Ebba Borbon-Acosta said TUPAD has already helped the vulnerable sector of the society for decades and still continues to play a big role in the labor community. She highlighted the discussions on occupational safety and health and the program’s administrative matters. She emphasized mutual commitment of the DOLE and the beneficiaries to ensure success.

TUPAD beneficiary Rebecca Albolera, 50-year old solo parent of Barangay Gusa, said she availed of the work opportunity to help her and her family in their day to day expenses. She said she badly needed employment to sustain her and her four children. She previously worked as a security guard in Pampanga but later had to return home due to her myoma ailment. After recuperating, it was difficult for her to find work. She learned about TUPAD in one of her Urban Poor Federation gatherings. It was an opportunity she could not dare to miss and was all grateful to DOLE-X, she said.

“Na-enganyo gyud ko nga muapil ani nga programa kay dako kini nga tabang sa akong pamilya. Nalipay ko ug dako ako pasalamat sa DOLE nga naay ingani nga programa labi na sa amo mga miyembro sa urban poor. Hinaut unta nga paghuman sa amo 30 days nga pagtrabaho, naa pa untay musunod nga programa sama ani o kaha ma-extend pa ang programa sa DOLE (I was motivated to avail of the program since it will be of big help to my family. I am happy and very thankful to DOLE for they have a program that can help the urban poor. I hope the 30-day work will be extended or that I can avail another program of DOLE),” Abolera said.

Abolera and her group were tasked to do a clean-up drive in Barangay Lapasan.

On behalf of 2nd District Congressman Rufus Rodriguez, former Congressman Maxie Rodriguez expressed his appreciation and gratitude to DOLE for the partnership through TUPAD. He likewise motivated the workers to work harder through the program.

TUPAD is a community-based assistance program of the DOLE that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum work period of ten days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.
