39 Oro interns hired thru DOLE-GIP

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Some 39 job interns were hired and oriented through the Government Internship Program (GIP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently at the DOLE-X Training Hall in Trinidad Building here.

DOLE-X Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO) Chief Ebba B. Acosta said the interns’ work period will last three to six months. She said the program engages young workers, especially those who are indigents, be employed and gain work experiences to boost their career growth in the government offices.

The orientation guided the students on the appropriate organizational communication behavior and target organizational outcomes, such as employee job satisfaction and motivation.

Acosta said DOLE-X, through Regional Director lawyer Joffrey M. Suyao, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to 16 other government agencies to accept the work assignments of the interns.

GIP Maria Mae Fatima J. Arangcon is part of the indigent community with her father as a trisikad driver and her mother occasionally sells vegetables in Bulua public market. She is the eldest of three siblings. Despite the limited finances of the family, Arangcon was able to finish her degree in Secondary Education in a private institution. She was a former tutor from a private organization and decided to grab the opportunity of the DOLE-GIP. She believes young professionals like her should have a good start in gaining work exposure and experiences in the government. The stipend she receives is their family’s main source of income to sustain their needs.

DOLE-GIP provides internship opportunities for poor/indigent high school, technical-vocational or college graduates wanting to pursue a career in public service, local or national government. Priority beneficiaries are applicants with no work experience.

An intern receives an allowance/stipend equivalent to 100% of the existing minimum wage, GSIS accident insurance coverage for one year, and Certification of Completion issued by DOLE-X.

Interested applicants may approach their nearest DOLE Provincial/Field Office and bring their Transcript of Records/Form 137/diploma, Certificate of Graduation (tech-voc graduates), and Certificate of Indigency from their respective barangays.
