Magtrayo, second from the eldest of three siblings, was the last one to graduate in the family. He lives with his father since his parents have already been separated.

“I highly recommend SPES program because it gave so much help on paying my tuition fees and school expenses. Our family really cannot afford to pay for my studies since my father is the only one who sustains our daily needs,” Magtrayo said.

Assigned in the General Maintenance Department of their school, Magtrayo persevered and worked hard in pursuing his studies. He also humbly shared his work experience La Victoria Grocery Store. His years of work experiences were able to motivate him to finish school and help his family financially.

Natividad thanked the Local Government Unit of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for its continuing support and encouragement to the youth to be more productive workers in the community, as well as continue their education. He emphasized SPES as a mechanism for youth empowerment as future members of the labor force of the country.

SPES is one of the employment facilitation programs of DOLE which aims to help poor but deserving students pursue education. This offers work for a minimum period of 20 to 70 days during summer vacation and Christmas holidays. The compensation scheme is 60% from the implementer/employer and 40% salary share from the DOLE. The beneficiary’s salary is used to defray expenses for their educational needs basically for buying school supplies and paying tuition fees.
