71 workers acquire regularization arising from DOLE complaint inspection

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, February 12, 2020 --- Some 71 electric meter readers and electric cutters of Misamis Occidental II Electric Cooperative, Inc.  (MOELCI- II) in Ozamiz City finally had their pleas heard as they were absorbed as regular employees after 10 long years of appealing to the management.

 

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) Chief Leonardo Rodrigo said Ramil Labaste, Meter Reader President originally lodged complaint on behalf of all the meter readers of MOELCI-II to the Office of Malacañang seeking Presidential intercession and thereafter referred to the DOLE- X a complaint inspection that was conducted on the 22nd and the 23rd of January 2020 by Labor Inspector Paolo Miguel P. Cano.

 

Based on Department Order No. 183-17, the implementation of the visitorial and enforcement powers under the Labor Code is to further strengthen the compliance of labor laws and standards in attaining a just, inexpensive and expeditious settlement and resolution of labor cases.

 

In addition to the implementation of the regularization of the said workers, MOELCI-II also paid the same on their holiday pay in the total amount of PhP 361,485.00 and PhP 826,513.00 for five-days Service Incentive Leave (SIL) for calendar years 2017, 2018 and 2019 giving a total monetary settlement to an amount of PhP 1,187,998.00. The management represented by Human Resource Officer Vicente S. Rupinta committed to correct the deficiencies immediately in compliance with the General Labor Standards in favor of the workers.

 

The payment was witnessed and verified by DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Senior Labor and Employment Officer Jose G. Robles on the 7th of February 2020 held at MOELCI-II’s Conference Hall.

 

In behalf of all the workers, Labaste extended their utmost appreciation and gratitude to DOLE-X for aptly responding to their request for assistance in accordance with existing Labor Standards policies. Labaste said, “Walay mahitabo if not because of DOLE’s interventions. Tungod kay na-regular employees nami karon entitled na pud mi sa uban benefits nga wala jud namo sukad na-receive, and because of this, dako ni siya ug effect towards the quality of life nga among mahatag sa among mga pamilya, hilabina para sa kaugmaon sa among mga anak.” (Nothing will happen if not because of DOLE’s interventions. Because of our regularization, we are now also entitled to other benefits that we have not receive since the beginning of our employment, and because of this, this will greatly effect towards the quality of life that we can give to our families, especially for the future of our children).

 

Lastly, MOELCI-II gave their commitment to abide on the rules mandated by law as well as ensuring the safety and health of their workers at all time.
