DOLE-X fulfills commitment to CAPDev program: turned over PhP500K worth of Corn Mill equipment and t

Malaybalay City, Bukidnon --- As part of its support and commitment to the Convergence Areas for Peace and Development (CAPDev) program of President Duterte, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X), through its Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (BPFO), turned over a corn mill equipment worth PhP520,000.00 to the Mainaga Farmers Association (MFA) at Sitio Mainaga, Barangay Iba, Cabanglasan, this province.

DOLE BPFO Chief Raul L. Valmores said the turnover of the PhP651,736.00 livelihood project of equipment and tools, including the corn mill, showed the Department’s full support to the directive of the President, through Executive Order No. 70 or the “Whole of Nation Approach,” to support decommissioned combatants as a strategy to curb communist insurgency.

“DOLE is hopeful that this livelihood project will help the farmers start anew and begin their lives with renewed confidence towards the government as a start off for them to work and live together in peace and harmony with the community,” Valmores said.

Robert C. Cabana, president of MFA, said that they are extremely grateful to DOLE and the help of other government units for the livelihood project granted to them.

Cabana said, “Our members are mostly corn producers and farmers. The corn mill equipment will be a convenient source of corn grits for human consumption, thus ensuring food security among the member farmers.”

“This will also lessen the production cost of the farmers because we have now our own equipment to mill our corn. Also, we can make our own feed ingredient or tahop for livestock consumption,” he added.

Cabana said that it has long been a dream of the farmers to have an equipment such as the corn mill, and finally, after the long wait, they finally have their own.

With the turn-over of the corn mill and the possible increase of income of the farmers, Cabana is hopeful that this will enable the farmer members of MFA to become more dedicated and hardworking towards their work and build loyalty to the government.

“We cannot express how thankful we are to the government most especially to DOLE for this grant. We promise that we will take care of this so that it will not be just us who will benefit from it, but also the next generation of farmers,” Cabana said.

The CAPDev program aims to deliver the services of the government to identified poor and conflict-affected areas and, ultimately, resolve local communist conflicts. Sitio Mainaga in Cabanglasan town is one of those said areas.

The livelihood grant was released under the Kabuhayan Program of DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) that particularly seeks to contribute to poverty reduction, and vulnerability to risks of the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized workers.
