NMFFWC donates PPE sets, food packs to support COVID-19 frontliners

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Finalized over cyber/online meeting of the Northern Mindanao Federation of Family Welfare Committees (NMFFWC) Board of Directors (BODs) on 24 April 2020, the NMFFWC came up with a noble undertaking of donating personal protective equipment (PPEs) including food packs to frontliners at the Local Government Units (LGUs) and hospitals curbing the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19).

It has been noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected Federation members under the hospital industry, threatening their health and lives as well as of their families.

Through Resolution No. 01, Series of 2020 approved by its BODs, NMFFWC  mutually agreed on the need to unite in extending support and necessary assistance to affected workers as frontliners as holistic mandate to sustain quality of life of the organization.

According to Chairperson Urchielyn C. Basalio, the regional family welfare federation provides 100 sets of PPEs distributed to four hospitals in Iligan City, namely the Adventist Medical Center Iligan, Dr. Uy Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, and Mercy Hospital to augment supplies for health workers. These hospitals were chosen in view of the presence of its member-workers employed in NMFFWC-registered companies.

The equipment includes full protective medical gowns, face masks, head caps, gloves, shoe covers and face shields generated from its funds and from mutual support from its member-companies.

Hospital-beneficiaries are members of the Federation attending to COVID-19 patients in Iligan City and its neighboring city and province like Marawi and Lanao del Sur.

"As an advocate of Family Welfare Program (FWP) of the Department of Labor and Employment, I feel the obligation and exercise its corporate social responsibility as a gesture of support and encouragement to our NMFFWC member-frontliners for them to rise up and further be part of this noble undertaking while the entire region and nation, in general is beset by the global health crisis as declared by the national government and the World Health Organization," Basalio disclosed during the online meeting.

“We will continue to communicate with the member-companies for product donations and identify strategic quarantine control points so that frontliners will receive donated stuff,” she added.

The FWP Federation is committed to allocate resources from its fund to purchase said equipment including 300 food packs for frontliners at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) in Cagayan de Oro City as the regional referral hospital for COVID-19 cases.

The donated PPEs and food packs were turned over by the NMFFWC and DOLE-X Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao on May 8, 2020 to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) as the chair for Northern Mindanao Task Force for COVID-19 represented by OCD Regional Director Rosauro Arnel Q. Gonzales, Jr. emphasizing gratefulness to the association and to DOLE-X.

“I would like to highlight that the DOLE-X is the first task force member national entity that donated PPEs for the frontliners. Indeed, a clear message that your depatment is one with us in leading the fight against this battle.” Gonzales said.

Meanwhile, NMMC accountant Domingo Gabalane expresses his gratitude to NMFFWC for the food packs. “This act of generosity has reminded me that “bayanihan” exists in us. I thank you in behalf of the hundreds of NMMC frontliners.” He said.
