DOLE-X film makers undergo workshop for DOLEkula film festival

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – 3 March 2021. The 21 Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) focal persons of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-X attended the workshop on film making conducted by Building Capacity, Awareness, Advocacy and Programs (BuildCA2P) of ChildFund Phils.


The two-day event on 1-2 March by BuildCA2P Technical Consultant Fredzon Sagarino; and Advocacy-Communications officer Michelle Robin-Bacsal aimed to heighten impact of child labor campaign in the community by integrating film advocacy in preparation of the DOLEkula Film Festival, Mga Maikling Kwento ng Batang Malaya, initiated by DOLE-X.


DOLEkula is a one-minute DOLE-X-wide digital film competition that encourages the creation of cinematic works of its employees that articulately interpret a Filipino child’s story against child labor activities in an artistic integrity.


DOLE-X Assistant Regional Director Estrella U. Pahalla said the DOLEkula promotes advocacy to promote participation of program implementers at the provincial level boosting the value of children's rights and family welfare among the parents of child laborers.


Workshop topics included theories of film language; technical exercises; production simulation; editing; and story development that challenged the CLPEP advocates to find their cinematic voice within the basic of narrative film.


At the end of the course, seven groups showcased their keystone project: a one-minute film in narrative structure that anchored on "Isang araw, Isang batang manggagawa."


Northern Mindanao stage actor and performing arts veteran Raul Z. Prima discussed tips on establishing effective storytelling during the film critiquing activity.
