Cruise ship OFW nephew finds relief thru TABANG cash assistance

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --- Alfred Acala was in Miami, Florida when his cruise ship manager announced the cessation of their operations in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Their industry was among the hardest hit brought about by the global health emergency.

 

The company withdrew some employees’ employment that included Acala.

 

For nine years as waiter, the 34-year-old recalled the entire moment when he almost lost hope. There was nothing in his mind but his family back in Base Camp, Maramag, Bukidnon, whose wife Nickkylou and one-year-old daughter were left depending him.

 

His wife runs an online buy-and-sell business to augment the needs of their growing family. Looking back, she recalled her husband as a dedicated father and responsive to provide good future for their children.

 

Aside from his family, Alfred supports the education needs of his first cousin’s son, Reymart Acala, a 20-year-old student of Central Mindanao University taking bachelor of science in electrical engineering, declaring him as latter’s direct beneficiary.

 

The overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Acala arrived in Cagayan de Oro City when a friend introduced the TABANG OFW cash assistance. He visited the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in the city where he was granted P30,000.00 as cash assistance on May 2021.

 

Reymart sees education above important than anything else. This for reason that he bought a laptop in support his virtual classes since his family cannot afford to buy one for him. By the help of Alfred, Reymart’s online learning made it convenient adept with technology requirements.

 

The 2nd year college beneficiary thanked uncle Reymart saying “My online studies are achieved because of uncle Reymart and TABANG OFW Program after purchasing the required gadget. The Program is a big help as I step forward on pursuing my goals and dreams in life”. 

 

Indeed, the program brings hope to all OFWs that financially support tertiary students by giving them an open opportunity to reach their ambitions in the period of pandemic.
