DOLE-X grants P6.5M to 494 workers on Labor Day

Malaybalay City, Bukidnon --- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) -Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (BPFO) granted PhP 6,543,650 worth of livelihood financial assistance and emergency employment wages to 494 workers on 1 May 2022 during the 120th Labor Day celebration at Barangay 9 Gymnasium, this city.


DOLE-X BPFO Chief Raul L. Valmores said, “As a way to celebrate and show our gratitude to the working informal sector, we released PhP 295,650 worth of wages under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) to 81 beneficiaries; PhP 5,985,000 livelihood financial assistance under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to Accredited Co-Partner Valencia Rural Improvement Multi-Purpose Cooperative for the 398 individual projects of parents of child laborers and low income earners; PhP 60,000 worth of Social Amelioration Program’s (SAP) maternity claims to 12 sugar industry workers; and PhP 213,000 worth of monetary claims under the Single-Entry Approach (SEnA) program to three workers from three companies in the province.”


Moreover, Valmores said Registration for Rural Workers’ Associations (RWAs) certificates were also handed over, and a contract signing of Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries was done during the advanced Labor Day celebration on 29 April 2022.


Floramie Subdi, a mother of two and TUPAD beneficiary said, “This year’s Labor Day brought new beginnings to my life. The PhP 3,650 wage I received today will really help my children in their daily transportation fare and allowances especially that the face-to-face classes have started.”


Likewise, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-X) through the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) granted PhP 360,000 worth of financial assistance to 18 Sa Pinas Ikaw ang Ma’am at Sir (SPIMS) beneficiaries and three returning OFWs under the Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration (LPOR). The OWWA-X also released some PhP 250,000 financial assistance to nine OFWs for the bereavement, death, scholarship and livelihood claims.


SPIMS beneficiary Shelamie Cabatuan said, “I’m very thankful to the program of DOLE and OWWA. Though I like to work abroad because of the many places I can visit, nothing can change the happiness when you are working at home.”


Cabatuan was once a domestic worker in Hongkong and is now a full time Department of Education teacher facilitated under the SPIMS program.


“As one of the OFW teachers who dreamed to work back home and be united with their family, DOLE and OWWA certainly made our dreams come true. I am looking forward that this program will help more Filipino teachers abroad land a job at home,” Cabatuan said.


Valmores said, “In celebration of the 120th Labor Day, the DOLE, through its different programs for the Filipino workers, acknowledges the victories and progress of our labor sector throughout the years.” He said that Labor Day is a reminder to everyone of their rights and DOLE’s role in ensuring these rights are preserved and protected.


OWWA-X Family Welfare Officer Jasper John N. Ramos, NRCO Regional Coordinator Marry Gil D. Palisbo, and Local Government Unit of Malaybalay City Public Employment Service Office Manager lawyer Anna Marie R. Bergado supported the event as part of the region-wide Labor Day celebration.
