DOLE-X coaches 437 Plaridel High School Students on career choices
Plaridel, Misamis Occidental --- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) conducted career coaching seminar to enlighten the 437 Grade 10 students from 9 different sections of Looc National High School at the School Gymnasium, this municipality.
 
It has been the mission of DOLE to promote gainful employment opportunities to every Filipino worker. With the recent labor market information and given the globalization issues, the government instituted ways and means to address the present scenario of job-skills mismatch and needed competencies of a job seeker especially the youth.
 
DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Head Leonardo G. Rodrigo informed that through Career Coaching, “The students shall determine their personality, skills and career interest and understand the simple trends in the labor market to make it easy for them to plan their career path.”
 
The seminar was formally opened by the OIC School Principal Maricel Compania who graciously welcomed the DOLE-X speakers with the special participation of the Plaridel Municipal Public Services Office (PESO) Manager Gemma Cabiles.
 
“We are so privileged to have the DOLE staff here today to help you discover and sort through your options and come up with a career choice that will be fulfilling for you,” Compania said.
 
She further added that students should plan their career based on what labor market needs and not on what is prevalent, to aid them to land jobs after completing high school.
 
Topics discussed were the different types of test to know your career interest such as RIASEC (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional), personality, values, skills for school and workplace and the world of work.
 
Also, Mis. Occ. PFO presented the PESO services and the current labor market information including jobs that are in demand and which will be in demand in the next 10 years.
 
Moreover, the same Career Coaching session was conducted the following day to some 250 Senior High School students of Aloran Trade High School, a public school of the Municipality of Aloran.
 
More importantly, DOLE-X Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante emphasized that career guidance and employment coaching comprises a key pillar of the DOLE’s employment facilitation function.
