RTWPB-X conducts Provincial Public Wage Consultation in the Province of Bukidnon
Malaybalay City, Bukidnon --- The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB-X) in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X, through its Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (Buk PFO) has recently conducted its Provincial Wage Consultation on 23 February 2017 at Waterpool Hotel, Casisang, this city.
 
DOLE-X Buk PFO Head Raul L. Valmores informed that RTWPB is an attached agency of DOLE, pursuant to Republic Act No. 6727.
 
“Its mandate is to fix the amount of minimum wages on the regional, provincial and/or industry level/s. It also promotes productivity improvement and gain-sharing programs. Hence, public consultations are conducted to discuss and develop the consensus of the management and the industrial workers’ views on wage issues and concerns in the region,” Valmores added.
 
43 individuals attended the consultation including the members of the board, the management representatives, members of the Organisasyon sa Gagmay ug Yanong Obrerong Nagkahiusa (OGYON), and representatives from the District Tripartite Council (DTC) of the Sugarcane Industry.
 
One of the highlights of the consultation was the presentation on the Economic Situationer by National Economic Development Authority (NEDA-X), Chief Research Development Engr. Clark Y. Clarete.
Clarete emphasized that the province of Bukidnon has been rated 95.8% for employment, 3.6% inflation rate from 2010-2016, Php 376.52 rate for poverty threshold and a poverty rate incidence of 49%.
 
Likewise, the Bukidnon Provincial Director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Director Ermedio J. Abang also presented the updates on the prices of basic goods and commodities with comparative analysis from July 2015 to February 2017 showing the average increases such as family sardines at 2.24%, carnation milk at 0.72%, bear brand with iron at 1.02%, purefoods at 3.58%, great taste coffee at 1.04% and champion and surf detergent bars at .14%.
 
“I am very grateful that I am invited on a public wage consultation, this shows that the government is willing to hear the concerns of the different industries”, say Mr. Ignacio D. Baquiler, DTC Field Workers’ Representative.
