DOLE-X Lanao del Norte PFO celebrates 2017 International Women’s Day
Iligan City --- The empowered women of the Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X) - Lanao del Norte (LDN) Provincial Field Office (PFO) together with all the women organization from the different companies, establishments, and institutions participated in the celebration of the 2017 International Women’s Day with the theme, “#Be Bold For Change” and “Make Change Work For Women” on 8 March 2017 at the City Public Plaza, Poblacion, this city.

DOLE-X LDN PFO Head Remegio Cabañog informed that each year, women around the world gather to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

“This year, Iligan City continuously supported its annual celebration through motorcade around the city, and a whole-day of dancing, sharing of skills, testimonies and sports fest,” Cabañog added.

Overseas Foreign Worker dependent and now an outsourced employee of DOLE Zephanie P. Macaranas said, “This shows that women today exemplify a big change not just in their homes but also to our society. An example of that is my mother. Even though she undergoes a lot of torment and sacrifices in life, she still inspire a lot of people especially me.”

Cabañog highlighted that the world has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation may feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality.

“The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. However, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices,” Cabañog added.

In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

Cabañog likewise commended the women of the office for all their hard work and sacrifices not only in their respective work but also to their families.
