Brgy. San Vicente Bajo beneficiaries receive P200K livelihood assistance from DOLE-X DILEEP

Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental --- Some 20 low-income members of Barangay San Vicente Bajo Purok-6 Neighborhood Association gathered for the release of Rice Trading Livelihood Project in the amount of Php 200,000.00 worth of livelihood financial assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental (Mis. Occ.) Provincial Field Office (PFO) on the 28th of March 2017, in this city.

The grant was released under the Kabuhayan Program of DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) that particularly seeks to contribute to poverty reduction.

Mis. Occ. PFO Head Leonardo G. Rodrigo said, “DILEEP beneficiaries ranged from the self-employed who are unable to earn sufficient income, marginalized and landless farmers, unpaid family workers, parents of child laborers, low wage and seasonal workers, and displaced workers or workers to be displaced as a result of natural and manmade disasters.”

As the highlight of the activity, Rodrigo handed over the check to Brgy. Captain Noel B. Undag, Sr. and the beneficiaries represented by the Associaction President Fe P. Undag.

According to Capt. Undag, the success of the project depends solely on the member’s dedication, talents and skills. And also through the effort of the elected officers, the creation of various committees and through the coordination of the Barangay Council as Accredited Co-partner of DOLE in the provision of assistance.

Oroquieta, as the capital city of the province, is considered the commercial and business center in the Northern part of Misamis Occidental.

That said, Oroquieta presents the best location for many successful businesses—restaurants and food and catering services, in particular-- which makes a great market for the livelihood project.

For the most part, the project involves canvassing to purchasing of rice and selling of the commodity in accordance to the association’s guidelines and policies.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo encouraged the beneficiaries to do their duties and responsibilities with respect to the approved proposal.

After the ceremonial turnover, the project beneficiary extended her words of commitment and gratitude to DOLE-X, “Among siguradoon nga mulambo ni nga negosyo. Gapasalamat mi sa DOLE hilabina sa Mis. Occ. staff nga nag assist namu sa processo aning proyektoha ug sa tulong financial nga among kinahanglan para makasugod mi sa among negosyo” (We will make sure that this business will grow. We are thankful to DOLE especially to staff of Mis. Occ. who assisted us in the process of making the project proposal and for the financial assistance we need to start the business), Undag said.

While the beneficiaries under this project can expect to improve their livelihoods, they can also acquire knowledge and skills in the long term—to the benefit of themselves, their families, the municipality, and the wider economy.
