Bukidnon State University and DOLE-X hold TNK forum, LEGS and Job Fair with 420 applicants hired on

Malaybalay City, Bukidnon--The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE X), through its Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (Buk PFO) facilitated the conduct of Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) forum with Labor Education to Graduating Students (LEGS) and Job Fair on 10-11 May 2017 at the Bukidnon State University campus, this city.

The activities were in partnership with the Bukidnon State University (BSU), in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Malaybalay City and its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), as well as with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

DOLE-X Buk PFO Chief Raul L. Valmores said that the services provided by DOLE are in line with the thrust of the Duterte administration in generating decent and productive employment consistent with the national goals of inclusive growth, poverty alleviation and job creation.

The TNK Job and Business Fair is an inter-agency initiative of DOLE, DTI, LGUs, and other partner agencies aimed at improving access to and increase employment through creation of more jobs, promotion of entrepreneurship especially for the non-wage sector, and address skills requirements especially to those graduating students. Information on the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers were presented to 250 graduating students during the LEGS session.

1,265 qualified applicants for local hiring were registered and 420 were Hired on the Spot (HOTS) or 33% of the total qualified registered applicants. Among them was Mr. Lorenz Theodore Valendez, 25 years old and a graduating student of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Financial Management. He was hired as a Call Center Agent at Arriba Telecontact, Inc. and was instructed to submit his requirements after his May 30, 2017 graduation.

Valendez learned about the Job Fair thru a radio announcement and tarpaulin posting around the University campus. “As a graduating student, my wish is for my residence and employment to be located in the same city as it would be more convenient for me. I felt so glad that I was hired on the spot in my first time to join a Job Fair! I am thankful that BSU partnered with DOLE for this Job Fair as it effectively helped in assisting job applicants to find immediate employment,” he further shared.

Most of the applicants were pineapple and banana farm workers, factory workers, and sales workers.
