DOLE-X conducts PESO meeting and GLS orientation to LGU-Plaridel as prelude to 2018 program implemen

Plaridel ---- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) conducted its first monthly meeting of the Mis. Occ. Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers Association (MOPEMA), followed by an orientation seminar on General Labor Standards (GLS) to the Local Government Unit (LGU) employees of Plaridel on the 11th of January 2018 at Shang’s Resort, this Municipality.


The event was hosted by the Plaridel PESO thru PESO Manager Gemma Cabiles with some of its 18 LGU and academe managers and Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) implementers of the province.


DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo explained, “PESO aims to provide non-fee charging employment services facility or entity to strengthen and expand the existing employment facilitation and equality of opportunities to DOLE clients and constituents all over the country.”


Rodrigo reported that as of the end of CY 2017, 18 PESO Managers are active throughout the province, comprising of 14 PESO-LGU and 4 PESO-Academe.


Meanwhile, the meeting highlighted on the core planning for the year 2018 as well as the discussions on implementation of DOLE programs at the local level, particularly on livelihood and emergency employment, and SPES pledge of commitment.


For the efficient implementation, the importance of liquidation of previously-released grants and the prompt monthly submission of PESO reports are to be emphasized.


Subsequently, the GLS seminar oriented the employees on the concepts on security of tenure; alternative dispute resolution strategies; management prerogatives and its limitations and the rights and obligations of the employees.


GLS keeps employees up-to-date of the current developments in labor laws; guarantees professional growth in knowledge, skills and attitude in line with the changes in the business system and helps improve their continuous productivity in their jobs. 


In his statement, Rodrigo encouraged the workers and employers to become responsible partners in the promotion of productive and decent workplace by actively adopting the GLS.
