DOLE Mis. Occ. undertakes career coaching brigade to guide High school students on appropriate caree


Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental --- It has been the mission of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to promote gainful employment opportunities to every Filipino worker. With the recent labor market information and given the globalization issues, the government instituted ways and means to address the present scenario of job-skills mismatch and needed competencies of a job seeker especially the youth. Thus, the Department, through its Regional Office No. X and its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) advocates career coaching activities to enlighten the students of their career paths.


DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO will conduct a series of lectures on the following dates of March to: Misamis Occidental National High School (MONTHS) on the 21st of March; Southern Capital College (SCC) on the 22nd; Rizal National High School on the 23rd; Bunga National High School on the 27th and on the 28th of March 2018 to Senote National High School for the seminar on Career Guidance Orientation to some Grade 10 students.


On highlighting the importance of profession and career planning, DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo aims that the students will be provided with adequate information and knowledge of the possible careers and to lessen cases of shifting of courses in the middle of their college years.


“We want the students to decide their career choices based on their personality and not on what is popular and high paying jobs, to avoid mismatch,” Rodrigo said.


Also, the city Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Manager Mark Artigas will discuss the employment facilitation programs and services entrusted by DOLE to the local government units (LGU) comprising the conduct of job fairs, recruitment assistance, Philjobnet, Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) among others.


Artigas stresses that determining one’s career is a tough decision that needs careful planning and thorough deliberation in order to come up with a good career decision- making during the student’s high school life.


Mis. Occ. PFO will also present the current labor market information including jobs that are in demand and which will be in demand in the next 10 years.


In conclusion, Rodrigo emphasizes that joint efforts of DOLE together with the PESO is to address the mismatch that caused unemployment and underemployment.
