DOLE-X enhances supervisory skills

Cagayan de Oro City---“Change is external…transition is internal” was the tagline which caught the attention of five (5) DOLE-X staff along with 72 participants-supervisors and would-be supervisors from different government agencies in Northern Mindanao. This was during the Supervisory Development Course Module II (SDC) entitled “Supervision: A Challenge and Commitment” conducted by the Civil Service Commission-10 (CSC-10) held on 20-21 March 2018 at Grand Caprice Restaurant, this City.

The SDC aims to enhance the quality of supervisors, ensure sustained employee empowerment in public service and to asses one’s organization’s readiness for change and empowerment.

Participants went through workshops that depict effective leadership on technical competencies, surfacing and managing abilities of their supervisees, as well as managing the social aspects of their work.

The two-day training was facilitated by Eva Tubac-Batutay and Mary Ann H. Borres, supervisors of CSC-X.

DOLE-X attendees representing work units were Arlyn Z. Bael (Regional Office); Archibald Batica (Bukidnon); Alice P. Tinhay (Eastern Misamis Oriental); Criste O. Perfecto (Lanao del Norte); Jasmin L. Vicente (Misamis Occidental) and Glenford C. Labial (Regional Office).

In one of the workshop modules entitled Developing Organizations and People, group reporter Vicente of DOLE-Misamis Occidental emphasized that, “In order to manage others, we must first learn to manage our own self, learn to communicate as it is important to hear from others”.

“As supervisors, we have to learn the language of effective communication adequately and use the authority to supervise and create accountability for them to grow”. She added.

Another module entitled: Becoming a Supervisor: Changes and Transition with sub-topics on The Supervisor ADAPTS; The Difference between Managing and Doing: New Paradigms in Supervision and Management; Delegation: Barriers and Benefits; and The Supervisor TRANSFORMS and Communication; and The Secret to Organizational Effectiveness, befits the supervisory training.

The 16 hours of grueling lectures, individual exercises, and group dynamics commenced with the giving of certificates accompanied with positive impressions and appreciation from the participants.

The training ended with an invitation for SDC modules 3-5 tentatively scheduled on May to June 2018.
