Brgy. Dolipos Bajo beneficiaries receive P250K livelihood assistance from DOLE-X DILEEP

Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental --- With the improved implementation of its livelihood program, the labor department was able to assist more individuals, particularly those belonging to the informal sector.

Some 36 low-income members of Barangay Dolipos Bajo Panginabuhian Association received grant for Mini Grocery Livelihood Project in the amount of Php 250,000.00 worth of livelihood financial assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental (Mis. Occ.) Provincial Field Office (PFO) on the 20th of March 2018, in this city.

DOLE-X Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao approved the release of the financial grant under the Kabuhayan Program of DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) that provides grant assistance for capacity-building on livelihood and entrepreneurial ventures for the vulnerable and marginalized workers.

As the highlight of the activity, DOLE Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo Rodrigo handed over the check to Punong Barangay Epifania D. Misperos and the beneficiaries represented by the Association President Ester M. Patrimonio.

According to Rodrigo, the success of the project depends solely on the member’s dedication and skills. The concerted effort of the elected officers, the creation of functional committees and continuing coordination with the Barangay Council as Accredited Co-partner (ACP) of DOLE in the provision of assistance are indelible success factors of fund beneficiaries.

As outlined in the project proposal, the beneficiaries came from the different zones of the said barangay, wherein mostly are agricultural workers and small income vendors.

“Kay layo na among Brgy. gikan sa siyudad, struggle jud namu permi ang pagpangompra, hilabina sa mga panahon nga naa kay dinaliang kinahanglan parehas anang magluto ka dayon naay kulang na ingredients. Mao ng nakahuna-huna jud dayon mi nga mini grocery store sa among lugar among e-negosyo para maka-save ug kwarta ug oras. Easy access sa mga tawo nga taga-amoa dayon affordable prices pa jud”, (Since our barangay is located far from the city, it is always a struggle for us in terms of purchasing goods and grocery items, especially during those times when you need an immediate item like when you are cooking and the ingredients are not complete. That is why, we thought of putting up a mini grocery store in our area to save money and time. In addition, it will be an easy access to everyone in the community and in affordable prices), said Assoc. Vice President Manuel A. Pateño.

Many agree that grocery store is proven to be a profitable business since this involves selling goods which are a man’s basic needs for everyday living. Moreover, since it is situated near the homes of the people in the community with minimal mark-up price to attract buyers and consumers, income is assured.

For the most part, the project involves canvassing to purchasing of grocery items including rice and selling of the commodity in accordance to the association’s guidelines and policies.

After the ceremonial turnover, Assoc. President Patrimonio extended her words of commitment and gratitude to DOLE-X, “Paningkamutan jud namu nga mulambo ni nga negosyo. Dako mi ug pasalamat sa DOLE hilabina sa Mis. Occ. staff nga nag assist namu sa processo aning proyektoha ug sa tulong financial nga among kinahanglan para makasugod mi sa among negosyo” (We will do our best for this business to grow. We are very thankful to DOLE especially to staff of Mis. Occ. who assisted us in the process of making the project proposal and for the financial assistance we need to start the business).

Rodrigo in his closing statement encouraged the beneficiaries to properly manage and appropriately monitor the project because their endeavor is very viable and sustainable.
