Calamba, Misamis Occidental --- It is the mission of the Department of Labor and Employment, (DOLE) to strengthen its Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) seminar program to arm new graduates with skills and information on work ethics, the culture of productive and decent work and other responsibilities in the workplace.

DOLE Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) conducted a pre-employment seminar to approximately 184 graduating students on the 9th of March 2018 at Sacred Heart College of Calamba, Inc.

The seminar aims to convey information to students for them to be able to identify strategic decisions related to career choices and define basic employment terms and concepts and relate them to the actual Philippine employment data.

DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo said, “LEGS provides an outlook to the future employees in the world of work. Students comprehend their rights and responsibilities during employment, the industry they desire to work for, and the career they would pursue.”

The program was conducted in coordination with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Calamba headed by its manager Maria Corazon T. Descallar.

On behalf of the students and the school administration, College Dean Dr. Rosa M. Lantaca gave her gratefulness to DOLE-X and other partners for making their students more prepared for the workplace and knowledgeable to their rights and responsibilities for them to attain decent and productive employment.

“To intensify its purpose, we collaborated with the Department of Education (DepEd) to promote good working habits and La Salle University of Cebu City to give strategies and techniques for the job interview,” said Lantaca.

Mis. Occ. PFO presented as well as the current labor market information including jobs that are in demand and which will be in demand in the next 10 years.

As of today, a total of 808 graduating students from 10 different schools in the province already benefitted with LEGS orientation for the first quarter of 2018.

“We hope to inculcate the value of work and being able to be professional in the workplace.  It is significant that every graduate is prepared and equipped for the world outside their school,” Rodrigo concluded.
