42 Marawi Siege IDP’s benefit DOLE livelihood starter kits

 

Iligan City --- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X) - Lanao del Norte Provincial Field Office (LDN PFO) released starter kits to the Marawi Siege Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on 27 March 2018 at the Accredited Co- Partner (ACP) Sentro Sa Maayong Magbalantay, Incorporated Office, Yollies Building, 0019, Araneta Street, Poblacion, this city.

 

DOLE- X LDN PFO Chief Remegio D. Cabañog reported that a total of 42 starter kits were distributed, composed of 32 sewing machines for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) trained graduates as required by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), three Negosyo Karts (Negokart), and seven starter kits made up of grocery items.

 

The said IDP beneficiaries were the victims of war between the government forces and the Islamic State Terrorists/Maute Group last May 2017, are currently living in temporary shelters provided by the national government under the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte areas.

 

The DOLE Kabuhayan (DK) Starter Kits Project is a livelihood formation strategy that is intended to bring about improved socio-economic well-being of workers in the informal economy, in groups/sectors with special concerns, and displaced wage workers (local and overseas) and their families.

The project provides livelihood starter kits consisting of a package of services that will enable the target beneficiaries to start quickly a livelihood undertaking and become self-employed. It aims to engage them in sustainable self-employment through easy-to-learn livelihood undertakings. The project prioritizes the poor and long-term unemployed especially the out-of-school youths, women, parents of child laborers, indigenous people, physically/occupationally disabled, urban poor, elderly persons, landless farmers/fisher folks, and other workers in the informal economy, and displaced wage (local and overseas) workers, OFW returnees and their dependents.
