23 Jimenez-MisOcc SPES beneficiaries plant mangrove trees

 

Jimenez, Misamis Occidental----- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental (Mis. Occ.) Provincial Field Office (PFO) – Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) 23 beneficiaries piloted the Mangrove Tree Planting activity on 30 May 2018 in Barangay Taboo, this municipality.

 

In line with the 16th year celebration of the Month of the Ocean (MOO) on May 2018 with the theme, “Stand Up, Save Our Reefs,” the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Jimenez in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other government agencies spearheaded various activities that aims to highlight the importance and significance of conservation, protection, and sustainable management of the country’s coastal and marine resources.

 

The Presidential Proclamation No. 57 issued in 1999 declared May as the month of the ocean, which mandates DENR and the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to spearhead the activities of MOO in collaboration with the different sectors of the society.

DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo said, “The Department fervently supports the movement for a green economy by engaging and advocating programs that promote environmental protection and preservation to promote a flourishing community.”

In a coordinated effort, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) represented by Hernan Serino and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Arnulfo Guimalan initiated the Mangrove Tree Planting with the theme: “Coastal Clean-up Drive, Kalikasan Pangalagaan para sa Kinabukasan” with the participation of DOLE-X Mis. Occ. SPES beneficiaries who expressed their strong commitment and support to Municipal Mayor Rosario K. Balais towards environmental conservation.

Rodrigo, in conclusion, aimed basically to strengthen the advocacy and readiness of the Department to be involved in green issues and mitigation solutions on climate change that would result to better delivery and quality programs and services to its stakeholders/clients.

The protection and preservation of the environment is in line with the Green Our DOLE (GOD) Program, which aims to achieve green work outcomes such as clean, safer and carbon-free work environment, healthy and productive workforce, efficient resource utilization and effective waste reduction and management.
