DOLE-X turnovers PhP600K-worth livelihood projects to 58 Mis. Occ.–Concepcion beneficiaries


Concepcion, Misamis Occidental --- On 14 June 2018, the Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X) - Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) spearheaded the ceremonial turnover of livelihood financial assistance worth Php 600,000.00 to 58 beneficiaries of two associations of Barangay Small Potongan of this municipality.


The grant was released under the Kabuhayan Program of DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) that particularly seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and address the vulnerability to risks of the poor and marginalized workers.


DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo said that DILEEP has extensively reached the remote areas of the province through the 10th Infantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army, Barangay Burgos, Oroquieta City as part of their Community Support Program (CSP) to 33 communist-NPA terrorist affected barangays who have the least access to local government programs and services due to its poor security condition and inaccessibility.


Municipal Mayor Juanidy M. Viña pleasantly welcomed and recognized the efforts of DOLE-X, thru Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao, for granting the amount of assistance to the livelihood projects of the different associations.


The approved amount of ₱300,000.00 will be granted to 30 members of the Small Potongan Farmer’s Association to finance the Backyard Piggery Livelihood Project and another ₱300,000.00 worth of check, representing the financial assistance for the Mini Grocery and General Merchandise of the 28 beneficiaries of Small Potongan Women’s Association.


As reported by the Women’s Assoc. president Merlinda C. Tumagna, they will establish the store at the center of the barangay to sell rice, grocery items and swine and poultry feeds.


For a business startup, the Farmer’s Association will procure 60 weanlings/piglets, feeds and medicines, wherein two piglets will be given to each beneficiary. On the average, it will take four to five months for the swine to reach a minimum weight of 80-85 kilograms per head. Moreover, the primary source of living of the barangay’s constituents is swine and poultry farming, thus, catalyzing the demand for the feeds that will be sold in the grocery of the Women’s Assoc.


Small Potongan Farmer’s Assoc. President Emie D. Sarial expressed his words of thanks to DOLE, “Karon pa jud mi sukad ani nga natagaan mi ug assistance gikan sa gobyerno. Mapasalamaton mi kay makatabang ni ug dako sa mga katawhan dire sa among barangay para mapataas ang kalidad sa panginabuhi. Kini makahatag ug home based nga negosyo ug oportunidad na makatrabaho ang mga membro sa asosasyon ug para na pud sa among mga pamilya”, (This is actually our first time that we have given an assistance from the government. We are very thankful as this would be a great help to the residents of the barangay to elevate each of their quality of life. This will also provide home based business and an employment opportunities to all members of the association and also to our families).


The 10th IB of the Phil. Army, in addition, committed to assist in the implementation of the livelihood project and to regularly conduct monitoring to ensure its sustainability.


In conclusion, Rodrigo gave emphasis on how the responsibility of the beneficiaries to implement their livelihood projects in accordance with the approved project proposal.
