Tobacco ITC in Misamis Oriental revisited


Claveria --- The Misamis Oriental Tobacco Industry Tripartite Council (ITC) conducted a learning session with topics covering labor laws and other programs by the Department of Labor and Employment-X on 7 August 2018 at Brgy. Ane-i conference hall.


Regional focal person for Bureau of Labor Relations (BLR) Glenford Cabañeros Labial said that the activity was a farm workers' dialogue in cooperation with PMFTC (represented by Maria Cristina M. Ador) intended to orient the roles of ITC to some 25 officers; farm planters and farm owners.


Provincial focal persons Alice P. Tinhay and Dundee E. Daing discussed agricultural labor practices, worker’s rights, and anti-child labor advocacy campaign, among others.


Ma. Mercedes M. Ayco of the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) presented issues concerning 1. the creation of LGU excise tax board committee; 2. insurance inclusion by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation on the major tobacco diseases; and 3. conduct of tripartite meeting with the farmers' sector, buying firm and NTA to set floor prices of tobacco for green leaf buying.


All these will be translated through resolutions to be endorsed to the BLR in response to the government mandates towards the realization of goals in reaching out vulnerable sectors like the farmers.


Under DOLE Department Order No. 140-14 on tripartism, labor and management are given a platform for institutionalizing social dialogue and consultations on policies and programs affecting industries.
