60 workers employed under DOLE-X’s P1 Million DILEEP Baliangao - Mis. Occ. livelihood projects


Baliangao, Misamis Occidental --- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE- X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO), released the financial assistance under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) worth PhP 500,000 to the 30 beneficiaries of Backyard Swine Project and also to the 30 beneficiaries of Fish Cage Livelihood Project under two associations on 11 July 2018 at the Baliangao Municipal Hall.


DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo informed that the grant was part of DILEEP to provide sustainable-alternative livelihood to the economically disadvantaged women and fishermen of barangays Punta Miray and Sinian of the municipality. Municipal Mayor Agne Yap graciously welcomed the participants, “The recipient associations have the mission to meet the economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations thru the livelihood projects which give additional source of income to all the members and their respective families.”


According to Barangay Punta Miray Fishermen’s Association President Chonilo L. Tenorio, one unit of floating fish cage measuring 10m x 10m x 6m will be established and stocked with 12,500 pieces of milkfish fingerlings weighing 50-60 grams. Increasingly, more of the fish harvest will be processed into smoked, dried, marinated, fermented with rice and canned in various styles that will be sold in markets through dealers, retailers, brokers, wholesalers and cooperatives.


Likewise, the Backyard Swine Project members will procure 40 weanlings/piglets, feeds and medicines. Two piglets will be given to each member-beneficiary. It will take four to five months for the swine to reach a minimum weight of 80-85 kilograms per head.

After the ceremonial turnover, the beneficiaries were very appreciative and thankful to DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO and extended their words of commitment to do their best to be able to nurture the project given by the government.


Rodrigo also stressed the importance of operating the project in accordance with the Project Proposal. The DILEEP is the Department’s contribution to the achievement of the government agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and substantial poverty reduction to reduce the vulnerability to risks of the poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers.
