Mis. Or., CDO PESO convene during DOLE skills registration program planning, uplifts local employmen

Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental --- The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. X, through its Misamis Oriental Provincial Field Office (DOLE-X Mis. Or. PFO) together with the Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (DOLE-X CDO FO), in coordination with its Local Government Units’ Public Employment Service Office (PESO) conducted a Provincial midyear assessment and action planning for 2019 on the National Skills Registration Program – PESO Employment Information System (NSRP-PEIS)  on 23 August 2018 at Paula’s Hotel, this municipality.

Gracing the activity are the presence of the OIC-Assistant Regional Director Ms. Estrella Uy-Pahalla, Supervising LEO of Mis. Or. Ms. Leila Labor, Supervising LEO of Cagayan de Oro Ms. Priscilla Batica, Supervising LEO of TSSD Ms. Arlyn Z. Bael, LEO III of Mis. Or. Mr. Dundee Daing, NSRP Program Coordinators Ms. Angelie Kate Sy and Mr. Peter Randy Gaquit.

The 2019 action plan for NSRP-PEIS addressed the corresponding issues and concerns of the focal persons and PESO managers regarding the program. Likewise, the PESO good practices were also recognized. The active participation of the PESO managers served very helpful in improving its implementation.

In her message, DOLE-X OIC-Assistant Regional Director Estrella U. Pahalla stated that the program is very beneficial in addressing the country’s issue on unemployment and jobs-skills mismatch. The program creates a system that captures the pool of available talents at the municipal and even up to the barangay level. In the event of potential and interested employers/investors, they are given the assurance that the skills registered are up-to- date and only those who are actively searching for employment are shown. This will help expedite the selection and hiring process for employers. Furthermore, because of the monthly and quarterly reporting mechanism of the project, DOLE and PESO are certain that the enrolled skills registrants may be easily contacted and interviewed by potential employers.

Villanueva PESO Manager Vanessa Ramos comprehensively expressed, “The assessment helped us identify our lapses especially in prioritizing not only the jobseekers but also the employers registered, which in our locality have only a few. Through the sharing of other PESO managers, I learned more about coordinating with the local media or through the Barangay PESO Desks in advocating the program. This way, it will be easier for jobseekers and employers to approach the PESO and look for jobs or post job vacancies.”

Ramos also acknowledged the technical assistance and support of DOLE-X through its Provincial and Field Offices. The strong coordination of DOLE felt by PESOs is a good indication that PESOs will be more proactive and productivity in uplifting the employment situation of the country.
