DOLE-X readies 176 Tech-Voc graduates of OAIS on employment and general labor standards

 

Oroquieta City --- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) conducted a pre-employment seminar and an orientation on General Labor Standards (GLS) to 176 Tech-Voc graduates of Oroquieta City Agro Industrial School (OAIS) on the 29th of August 2018 at OAIS, this city.

 

The seminar was held during the Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Alumni Summit headed by the Provincial Director Miraluna Baje-Lopez with the event’s main highlight on Jobs Linkaging and Network Services.

 

DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo explained that the lectures are designed to guide “would-be-workers” on their rights at work and responsibilities such as the appropriate minimum wages per region and sector, computation of holiday and premium pay, prescribed hours of work and other monetary benefits. It was aimed at providing information to graduates on the world of work, locally or overseas.

 

Pre-employment topics include preparation of resume and application letter; tips on facing job interviews; networking and building supportive relationship with people; gathering relevant information on employment and labor market.

 

The orientation on GLS keeps employees up-to-date of the current developments in labor laws; and the pre-employment guides guarantee professional growth in knowledge, skills and attitude in line with the changes in the business system and help improve employees’ continuous productivity in their jobs. 

 

During the seminar, DOLE representatives also explained the various employment programs being offered by the national government agencies such as Philippine Overseas Employment Authority (POEA) that has stepped up its efforts to address illegal recruitment and trafficking.

 

PD Baje-Lopez, in behalf of TESDA, extended her word of thanks to DOLE for imparting a complete pack of information on pre-employment and GLS to the new graduates.

 

In conclusion, Rodrigo encouraged the participants to become responsible partners in the promotion of productive and decent workplace by actively adopting the GLS.
