1,734 job vacancies on 39th Camiguin Lanzones Festival Job Fair

Mambajao, Camiguin – “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Do not wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope”.—a quote of USA former President Barrack Obama, which inspired Hired-On-The-Spot (HOTS) Kira Mae Bucton to seek employment.

Miss Bucton was one of the four HOTS during the Job Fair activity last 22-23 October 2018 in celebration of the 39th annual Lanzones Festival of Camiguin Province at the Ugmad Site, Cong. PPR Sports Complex Balbagon, of the municipality.  She was hired by the 1st Northern International Placement, Inc. as a lady driver bound for Qatar. Working abroad is easier for her for she is still single, aged 36 from Binaliwan, Mahinog in the province. Her inspiration to be an Overseas Filipino Worker is her parents. She wants to give them a comfortable life especially that they are growing old.

Likewise, another HOTS Gemma Galochino from Hubangon, Mahinog was also hired by the 1st Norther International Placement, Inc. as a waitress, the same bound for Qatar.

Further, Rural Transit Mindanao Incorporated (RTMI) hired Benjie Uba, also a resident of Barangay Binaliwan as an electrician and John Paul Etor of Mambajao as a bus conductor.

The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), thru its Camiguin Provincial Field Office (Cam PFO) spearheaded the Job Fair, back to back with a Docufest or the servicing out of government frontline programs in one venue. Cam PFO Chief Emmanuel G. Toledo reported that in support from the 14 companies, 1,224 job vacancies were posted for overseas, all with approved job orders from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency, and 510 for local employment within the country or the region.

Toledo informed that from the two-day activity, 63 Camiguingnons applied, of which 29 were for further interview. Further, he was also grateful from the continued support of partner government agencies in extending their services to the constituents of the province. The Department’s attached agencies like, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the National Reintegration Center for OFWs catered to the OFWs and their dependents; National Conciliation and Mediation Board for companies promoting labor-management cooperation; National Labor Relations Commission, Regional Arbitration Branch and the 8th Division provided labor legal consultations; Employees Compensation Commission catered to inquiries of workers who incapacitated due to work accidents/hazards; Professional Regulation Commission for the renewal/application  of professional licenses; and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Provincial Office catered to skilled workers in need of trainings. Likewise, he also extended his gratitude to other government agencies like the National Bureau of Investigation for pre-employment clearances; Philippine Statistical Authority for birth, marriage, and death certificates; application for membership or other queries from the Philhealth Corp., Pag-ibig Fund, Social Security System, and the Government Service Insurance System.

DOLE-X Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao expressed his all-out appreciation to the local chief executives of the province for their unceasing collaboration with the Department. Lone District Representative Xavier Jesus Romualdo and Provincial Governor Ma. Luisa Romualdo through their Public Employment Service Office Managers’ strong collaboration paved the way for the success of the activities for all the workers in the province.
