DOLE-X launches Camiguin United to Grow A Tree (UGAT) project

Mambajao, Camiguin---The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X) - Camiguin Provincial Field Office (Cam PFO), in partnership with the Federation of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) beneficiaries in Camiguin (FED-Cam) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) launched the United to Grow A Tree (UGAT) project on 31 January 2019 at Barangay Balbagon, this municipality. UGAT project aims to sustain the tree growing activities to contribute in the preservation of the environment.

DOLE-X Cam PFO Chief Emmanuel G. Toledo informed that the ten member-associations under Fed-Cam brought five tree guards each to ensure that the 50 different types of planted seedlings were protected from animals. Of which, all the participants committed to nurture the seedlings they had planted, as part also of their respective corporate social responsibility.

Likewise, the said activity is part of the Green Our DOLE Program (GODP) of the Department which seeks to attain green jobs. This is any job that reduces environmental impact, contributes to climate change solutions, and results not only to environmental, but also economic and social benefits to the community and to the workers. So are jobs that help protect the ecosystem and biodiversity, and reduce energy materials and water consumption.
