To attain ‘safety first’ in the workplace, DOLE orients OSH to 52 workers of TMOMI

 

Jimenez, Misamis Occidental --- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X) through Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. OPFO) has sustained strict compliance on occupational safety and health (OSH) standards to its establishments as they conducted the orientation seminar to the 52 employees of Third Millennium Oil Mills Incorporated (TMOMI) on 23 January 2019 at TMOMI Conference Room, this municipality.

 

“With the workers’ protection and safety as the principal priority, we have conducted the training to educate and capacitate the labor and the management sector towards ‘accident-free’ workplace to provide full protection for workers against all hazards in their working environment,” said DOLE-X Mis. Occ. Provincial Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo.

 

The orientation seminar focused on the issues and concerns on OSH standards and the report on the number of diseases and deaths from work-related accidents. Also discussed was the productivity techniques through 5S and ISTIV.

 

Since it is a manufacturing company, one of the workers’ disclosed that their exposure to hazards in the workplace include extreme heat from the boiler, risk of falling debris/objects, slippery work areas, and exposure to dust. However, they were also able to share their best practices in handling those hazards towards an effective and safe workplace.

 

TMOMI administrative staff April Rose Tabil expressed how grateful they were of the orientation, “DOLE delivers advocacy services on workers’ safety and health not only to increase productivity, but to safeguard our employees’ rights and safety through awareness that will ensure a holistic and extensive implementation of safety practices. We will not make it for just a slogan, but a way of life”.

 

Other duties of both workers and employers include the use of approved devices and equipment for the workplace and to comply with OSH standards including the provision of protective and safety devices such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and machine guards.
