Clarin, Misamis Occidental --- The Department of Labor and Employment, Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. Upon the approval of DOLE-X Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo said, “This project is to provide opportunities and better quality of life to each member who is mostly engaged in small sari-sari store business aside from their low-income occupations.”

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Clarin, as the Accredited Co-Partner, released 450 sacks of rice to the association, while all the members were given a quota for marketing and/or selling purposes, in accordance with the organization policies and guidelines as stipulated in their approved project proposal.

In addition, the project ensures that rice is of good quality, as well as, affordable to the constituents. Most of the members have minimal income which cannot suffice for the capitalization of the rice trading to the different barangays of the municipality. The recipients were grateful to DOLE-X. Association President Evelyn Detalla expressed, “Galisod jud mi ug budget sa among sweldo, mao cge mi pangita sideline na business. Dakong kalipay nani namo nga nadungog ra jud among mga pag-ampo nga matabangan mis ahensya sa gobyerno ug natagaan mi ug livelihood assistance para makasugod mis among negosyo na bigasan para makatabang mis among bana sa pang-adlaw adlaw na gastohon sa balay”, (We are having a hard time budgeting our salaries, thus we always look for a side line business. Now, we are much grateful that our prayers have been finally heard and this agency of the government has come to provide us with the livelihood assistance so we can start our rice business for us to be able to help our husbands on our daily expenses at home).

Detalla enthusiastically said that they will make sure to do their best to sustain the project and will definitely promote the programs of DOLE so more people in their community will benefit and utilize the government initiatives.

Also, Rodrigo encouraged the beneficiaries to perform their duties and responsibilities with respect to the approved proposals because not all are lucky to be recipients of the government’s assistance. He prompted that project liquidation will be done 60 days from the date of the turn-over ceremony accompanied with regular project monitoring by the PFO staff to ensure its sustainability.

Municipal Vice Mayor Glory Fe D. Roa thanked DOLE-X for the assistance and informing that the rice trading project will not only meet the demands of the local traders but will also cater the demands of the big stores in the whole province.
