Bonifacio, Mis. Occ. acquires P2.6 million DOLE TUPAD emergency employment

Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental---- The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. X (DOLE-X), through its Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO), conducted an orientation seminar on “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers” (TUPAD) program on 5 April 2019 at The Working Congressman Gymnasium of this municipality.

“TUPAD is a component of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) that commits to generate community employment by means of social, economic and agro-forestry projects, providing the displaced workers with an immediate source of income,” DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo said.

DOLE PFO conducted an orientation on the rules and regulations of TUPAD to 371 target beneficiaries such as the underemployed, laid-off or terminated employees as a result of retrenchment or permanent closure of an establishment and self-employed workers, including farmers and fisher folks who have lost their livelihood because of natural calamities, disasters, economic crisis, armed conflicts and seasonality of workers.

Of the total PhP 2,694,00.00 allocation for emergency employment, PhP 703,000.00 will be paid as wages to 190 beneficiaries of the selected barangays in Bonifacio municipality engaged in tree planting activities, while the remaining amount of PhP 1,991,100.00 is for the 14 barangays that will undertake various clean-up drives such as cleaning, waste disposal, beautification, greening and maintenance. Included in the work package are various personal protective equipment such as gloves, boots, t-shirts, hats and face masks which all provided for free.

Municipal Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Ritchel Flores explained, “This kind of program of the government does not only contribute to sustaining the level of employment rate in our province, it also encourages the people to keep on working despite the setbacks of life and to continue enriching themselves and providing for their respective families.”

Apart from the temporary employment, the project also supports the municipal government’s disaster risk reduction and waste management in the community.

In conclusion, Chief Rodrigo said, “It is our duty to extend support in these scenarios, especially to those people who are affected by natural hazards and manmade disasters.” He also encouraged the productive members of the community to continue to enrich themselves towards a nation that is packed with opportunities.
