Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon — The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) thru its Manager Roger Molina reported that 184 JobStarters (trainees) were recognized for successfully completing the ten (10) days first batch of Life Skills Training (LST) on 15 December 2017, this municipality.
The Department of Labor and Employment-X (DOLE-X), thru its Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (Buk PFO) Chief Raul L. Valmores informed that the training started 04 December 2017 until 14 December 2017.
The LST is the first phase of implementation of the JobStart Program (JSP). It is a ten-day training designed to holistically develop the behavior, attitude, and values of the trainees which enables them to plan their career path better and deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life and work. The LST program is composed of three parts namely; getting to know oneself and building the foundations for professional success, work readiness and finding a job and career exploration.
The recognition rites were graced by Manolo Fortich Mayor Clive D. Quiño.
The event was capped by the conduct of a mini-Job Fair, exclusive for the JobStarters, in preparation of their upcoming Technical Training. The trainees applied according to their skills and preferences to the job vacancies posted by the program’s partner-employers.
LST graduate Ms. Donnalyn Pinto, married with one child, shared her gratitude to the training, “When I got married I lost hope in finding a job and building my career. Being a wife and mother was then my priority. But when I heard about the JSP, it regained my motivation to build my career. I am very thankful because after the training, I realized that being married at a young age doesn’t mean it is the end of your career. Thank you to JobStart!”
Another LST graduate Mr. Vincent Salvador also expressed his gratefulness to the program, “The LST made me realize that when you dream of something, you should go for it. However, you should also plan well. The training taught me to identify what career I really wanted and to pursue it. It also helped me to build my self-confidence. I will really apply all the pieces of advice and tips shared by our trainers to become a better person. Thank you to DOLE-X, Coalition for Better Education, Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Government of Canada and of course to the PESO for implementing the JobStart Program.”
The Coalition for Better Education was contracted by the Department’s Bureau of Local Employment to provide the LST for the first wave implementation of JSP Manolo Fortich, which is the newest site of the program in Region X. Their trainers are very competent and well-versed on the topics. JSP program is a success due to the funding support of the ADB and the Canadian Government. With the help of the PESO, the at-risk youth who are neither in school nor employed, and also did not undergo any training, were given the chance to rebuild their self-esteem and be fully inspired to achieve their career goals.
“Being the only municipality in the entire Philippines who accepted the challenge to implement the JobStart Program, personally made me very happy and proud of what all of you have achieved today. Out of the thousand unemployed youth of Manolo Fortich, only 184 are given the opportunity to be trained. You are very lucky! I thank the DOLE-X, ADB and the Government of Canada for training our youth,” Mayor Quiño shared. “We aim to maintain to be the most competitive municipality here in Northern Mindanao, and hopefully, thru your help, we will thrive to be the most competitive municipality in Mindanao. My dream is that when I became a private citizen, no longer a mayor of this town, you will say that you were the first batch of the JobStarters coming from a municipality and become, perhaps, the President of a certain company. Congratulations!” he concluded.
