OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — Tangub City’s Fiesta Trabaho, Negosyo, and Kabuhayan (TNK) Job Fair and One Stop Shop of government services resulted 30 Hired on the Spot (HOTS) job applicants on 27 September 2022 at the Sinanduloy Cultural Gymnasium, of the city.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) spearheaded the event, in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) – Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO).
HOTS Edmar Tacal, 21-year-old and first-time job seeker said he was nervous when he attended for the first time in the Job Fair. He said the financial challenges and the inflation of basic goods prompted him to present his skills and credentials as two-year Automotive Technology to the fore.
Tacal was hired right away as a bus attendant or conductor by Rural Transit Mindanao Inc. where his father currently works as a bus driver.
“Akong papa ang una nakakita sa Facebook page post ni Mayor Ben Canama nga naay umaabot nga Job fair sa among siyudad. Didto ko nakahibalo kabahin aning Job Fair. Dako kaayo akong pasalamat kay sa wala damha nadawat ko on the spot. Nalipay ko kay wala na ko maka-gasto ug dako para mangita ug trabaho, ang trabaho nay mismo mi dool sa among lugar,” Tacal said.
(My father saw the post from the Facebook page of Mayor Ben Canama about the upcoming Job Fair in our city. I am grateful for I did not expect to be hired right away. I am overjoyed for I was unable to spend a lot in applying work, instead employment opportunities were readily available to us.)
Tacal is grateful on the Job Fair program of DOLE for its timely employment opportunities. For others, it would take months in job hunting to be hired.
DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Ebba B. Acosta said some 240 jobseekers from the city and nearby municipalities were registered with 79 applicants for further interview or were already scheduled to proceed on the hiring process of the companies concerned.
Acosta said 1,843 job vacancies were offered by the 26 participating local companies, and licensed overseas manpower agencies.
Moreover, Acosta said government agencies which participated in the One Stop Shop of services were, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), Social Security System (SSS), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Acosta emphasized the government’s commitment to assist the poor and unemployed out of poverty thru effective employment programs, and at the same time improve the economy.
Job Fair, a DOLE employment facilitation program is a strategy that facilitates the meeting of job seekers and employers, local and overseas licensed recruitment agencies, and registered job contractors and sub-contractors in one activity featuring registration, interviews and placement organized by DOLE, PESO, and private entities.
