CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The DOLE 10 Employees Association for Reform, Efficiency, Service, and Teamwork (DEAREST) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Northern Mindanao held a hybrid general assembly with the theme: “DEAREST: Moving Towards Responsive Unionism Amidst Challenges of Time” on 1 July 2022.
The annual activity was attended by 77 members across department’s provincial, field offices, units and divisions that highlighted accomplishments, policy review and recommendations for issues and concerns related to its core services as it envisions empowerment, engagement and good public service among its members.
In his opening remarks, DEAREST President Engr. Rose Lito Rosales underscored responsive unionism amidst challenges of the time and to make the most for the union.
Rosales expressed appreciation to the regional leadership through Regional Director (RD) Albert Gutib for providing support and fundamental needs such as protection and ensuring well-being of the members, as well as his commitment to continue a sound union-management relationship.
“My gratitude to RD Gutib as he never failed to support all our endeavors. He is always ready to guide us whenever needed”. Rosales said.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank everyone for the continued support to our association as a valuable segment within DOLE-X, especially that we play an important role within the framework of the entire organization.” He added.
Assistant Regional Director Pahalla, in behalf of RD Gutib, congratulated the officers and declared support to the organization and all its undertakings that are advantageous and favorable to its members to advance the needs and concerns of the union.
“The management is proactive and moves with the organization in the advancement of the welfare of the workers. I hope that the organization moves to greater heights in advancing the interests of all members”. She said.
Bureau of Labor Relations Director Atty. Ma. Consuelo Bacay discussed Public Sector Unions (PSUs) in the New Normal that outlined situationer, challenges and the future of work during the learning session.
“The Civil Service Commission called on government employees to embrace change and adjust to new realities. Strong trade unions are needed now more than ever to
build a world of work founded on sustainable development that ensures decent work for all.” Bacay said.
“PSUs are important as it gives high union density in the public sector that could make PSU a majority of the union movement. When we reached that era, PSU can influence organized labour as a whole, and find their niche in stronger nation-building.” She added.
As part of DEAREST’s vision to provide healthcare system, Maxicare Development Manager Debbie Ann Quinonero presented packages that shall be subject approval by the members as a potential medical needs provider.
The assembly proceeded to the business proper particularly on the president’s and treasurer’s reports, followed by the review and amendment of the constitution and by-laws.
