CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Workers’ Organization Development Program (WODP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) scholar Jumelyn L. Aluyen, as consistent Dean’s Lister, topped among her batch mates as second honor during the recognition day of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines on 18 May 2022.

DOLE-X Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO) Chief Emmanuel G. Toledo said Aluyen was awarded with the WODP scholarship grant during her second year (currently in her third year) as a Bachelor of Science in Technology Communication Management student. Aluyen maintained being an honor student.

Aluyen considers communication as vital in the world of work, which made her choose her course, aside from being in demand and flexible.

“As a student coming from a financially-struggling family, it helped me focus on academics more without worrying on allowance and school expenses. Being a WODP scholar also taught me the value of education which allowed me to become self-motivated and responsible,” Aluyen said being grateful to WODP.

Aluyen is an only child and both her parents are minimum wage earners. Her father is a contractual worker while her mother works as accounts payable in-charge.

Moreover, for her inspiration she said her parents inspired her in everything Aluyen does. She said her parents are very supportive and she sees their hard work just to provide all her needs. She wished someday she can give back in return and offer them a deserving comfortable life.

WODP enhances the capabilities of the workers’ organization and its members. One of the components of WODP is a scholarship grant to the members or their dependents. Aluyen, as a dependent of her mother as member of the Ororama United Workers Union-AWATU, made her qualified under the program.
