EL SALVADOR, Misamis Oriental –The 817 workers got P2,982,050 worth of wages under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) on 10 August 2022 at City Hall, here.

DOLE-X Mis. Or. PFO Chief Errol Natividad said the P3,650 wage per beneficiary, whose income were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, served as payment for the 10-day work on debris clearing, disinfection, and agro-forestry projects on certain areas of the barangays from June 16 to 29.

Moreover, housewife, mother of two, and first-time beneficiary Nova Mae Saguing needed to provide for her children’s needs since her income is insufficient for her needs. Also, the pandemic made her economic situation worse.

“Akong nadawat na sweldo karun dako kaayo ug tabang pamalit ug gatas, diaper ug vitamins sa akong mga anak,” Saguing said. [The wage I earned from this program will help me provide milk, diapers, and vitamins for my children.]

Likewise, another beneficiary and on-call saleslady with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure, Helen A. Cagubcub said, “Mapasalamaton ko ani nga programa. Akong nadawat na sweldo ipamalit nako sa akong mga tambal.”

[I am grateful to TUPAD program because the wage I received will help me buy the medicines for my daily maintenance.]

Cagubcub was underemployed and barely making enough to buy her maintenance and medications from her current work. Through TUPAD she hopes that the program would help in alleviating her financial struggles, and be able to provide for her daily medications.

Natividad said the pay-out was in coordination with Accredited Co-Partner Barangay Local Government Unit of Poblacion, of El Salvador City thru Brgy. Chairperson Edwin Mana and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

TUPAD provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed, and disadvantaged poor for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 90 days, depending on the nature of work.
