CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY— The city’s 1,476 workers were paid-out with a total wages of P8,856,000 under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE-X’s) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers (TUPAD) program on 17-18 August 2022 at Macanhan National High School, Brgy. Carmen, this city.
DOLE-X Cagayan de Oro City Field Office Chief Emmanuel Toledo said aside from the P6,000 wages each beneficiary received was the coverage of group personal accident insurance, provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), and orientation on basic safety and health. The workers were deployed in different areas of their respective barangays to do street sweeping, canal clean-ups and cleanliness maintenance of the public areas for a period of 16 days.
Toledo urged the beneficiaries to put their wages in to good use. “Gamita kanang inyo nakuha sa DOLE pampalit ug mga kinahanglanon sa balay, pagkaon, tambal or pang tuition sa inyong mga anak labi na karon na ting klase na.”
[Use wisely the wages you received from DOLE to buy household needs, food, medicine or tuition fees of your children especially that the school year has started.]
Moreover, 68-year old and Zone 9, Barangay Carmen beneficiary Florentino Alcantara, who works as a sikad-sikad driver at Brgy Macabalan said, “Salamat gyud kaayo sa DOLE sa inyong TUPAD! Dako kaayo ni nga pinansyal nga tabang pagpa-eskwela sa akong napulo ka anak, kay lisud na kaayo anf pangita karung panahona,” he said.

The pay-out was in collaboration with city’s Job Placement Bureau-Public Employment Service Office.
TUPAD Progam is a temporary emergency employment offered by DOLE under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) to the disadvantaged/displaced workers. Beneficiaries are given an average of 10-90 days’ work compensated based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region.
